Dear Hingham Community,

We, the Hingham Select Board, are disgusted that a bomb threat was sent to Congregation Sha’aray Shalom on November 19, 2023. Acts of hate and antisemitism will not be tolerated. We stand united as a community in support of the Congregation.

The Hingham Police and Fire Departments, police from neighboring towns, State Police and the FBI all responded promptly to this threat. Fortunately no explosives were found on site and the synagogue building was cleared to reopen. However, we recognize that the Jewish community continues to feel the impact of this threat to the safety and security of their house of worship and a place where families, both Jewish and non-Jewish, send their children to school. We pledge to remain vigilant.

Hingham is the proud home to a diversity of religions. The Town’s core values require that we respect and support all of our residents and that we safeguard the houses of worship they attend. We are strongest when we all stand together.

Processing threats of violence and incidents of intolerance can be difficult. Residents may contact the Town’s Community Crisis Response Clinician, Aileen Walsh, [email protected] for assistance.

Sincerely, Liz Klein, Chair Joe Fisher Bill Ramsey
