Upon completion of Officer’s Candidate School at Fort Eustis, Virginia, Kent was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps.

He was stationed in Germany and later deployed to Vietnam as the Company Commander of the 233rd Heavy Truck Transportation Company. While serving in Vietnam, Major Kent received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” for Valor. Under the Office of the Secretary of Defense, he participated in the pilot program for the Active- Guard- Reserve, now known as the AGR.

Kent continued service in the Army Reserve with the 76th Division Maneuver Training Command in Rhode Island, the 1037th and 1031st US Army Training Schools in Fort Devens and Connecticut, and finished his career as an Instructor Trainer with the 98th Division out of New York.

Memorial Day order of events

Monday, May 27 — Transported by bus, veterans will march into every cemetery where veterans are buried, leaving the George H. Mealy Post at 8 a.m. Stops include Green Gate Cemetery and the West Corner Memorial, then on to Woodside Cemetery, the Gold Star Mothers Memorial, and Beechwood Cemetery.

The parade formally begins at 10 a.m. upon arrival at South Shore Music Circus, where they meet up with other veterans, the Cohasset High School band, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and others.

From there, stops will be made at Central Cemetery and POW/MIA Square in the center of town. The last stop is Veterans Memorial Park at the harbor, where the formal Memorial Day ceremony is held, starting around noon. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The entire parade route will be lined with Cohasset residents of all ages in support of veterans.

The Field of Honor  coincides with the commemoration of Memorial Day in Cohasset, which has a tradition of strong support for those who lost their lives serving their country and all veterans.
