In a moving ceremony on August 6th, 2023 on the gazebo at the Hingham Bathing Beach, the family of Sgt. Matthew Partyka was presented with the Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Flag in recognition of Hingham’s declaration of Veterans Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Day on September 22, 2023.
The Partyka family was escorted up Rte. 228 by police and Veteran’s motorcycle clubs to the bathing beach where a number of official dignitaries spoke, including State Senator Patrick O’Connor, Select Board member Joe Fisher, Brigadier General Thomas J. Sellers, U.S Army (Ret.), Senior Chief Petty Officer Keith Jermyn, and S.A.R Flag Foundation founder and President Kevin Hertell. Members of the Hingham Police Department Color Guard, Hingham American Legion Post 120, and Hingham VFW Post 6053 were also part of the proceedings.
