Master's or Doctoral degree in School Psychology.

State licensure or certification as a School Psychologist in Massachusetts.

Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Reports To: Building Principal

Position:  Full-time

Work Year: A year round position and occasional evenings and weekends for parent/guardian engagement and/or student and agency events.

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with South Shore Stars’ Board approved compensation plan and commensurate with experience and certifications. 

Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by South Shore Stars

 Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel. Metrics modeled on Massachusetts Department of  Elementary and Secondary Education Educator Rubrics will be used.

Job Description:

As a School Psychologist, you will play a vital role in the educational team, providing essential psychological services to support students' academic and social-emotional well-being. Your responsibilities will include:

Conducting comprehensive assessments to identify students' strengths and areas of need.

Developing and implementing effective intervention plans and IEPs to address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional concerns.

Serve as South Shore Stars School and Learning Center liaison between sending school districts and Parent/Guardians.

Participate as a key member of the school team to support all requests from DESE and OSD in relation to 766 school compliance and operations

Support the admissions and enrollment process for potential students. 

Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Providing counseling and guidance to students facing emotional or behavioral challenges.

Participating in the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.

Offering professional expertise in the areas of mental health, crisis intervention, and behavioral management.

Establishes an effective working relationship with administrators, guidance counselors, school psychologists, nurses, and classroom teachers in assessing the mental and emotional health of the individual student having school difficulty and in evolving appropriate plans.

Maintains professionalism and conveys to parents the school's goal of providing an education and furthering the growth and development of each child.

Assists in developing ways of involving parents in the affairs of the school and community.

Works closely with and serves as liaison between the school and outside agencies, such as the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Child and Family Services, the Safety Agencies, etc.

Utilizes crisis management strategies and conducts safety assessments as needed.

Develops and implements lessons around social/emotional development in the classroom setting when applicable to the school.

Provides individual and/or group counseling to students and supports the team in the development and implementation of individual student safety plans, IEP’s, 504’s, health care plans, etc.

Maintains and continually updates a directory of referral services to be utilized in crisis situations affecting students.

Takes initiative in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and services to meet the needs of students adjusting to school or planning for school transitions.

Strives to participate in professional development opportunities to remain current in the educational field.

Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, colleagues, and parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of students.

Performs such other related tasks and assumes such other related responsibilities as may from time-to-time be assigned by the Principal or CEO.
