Cohasset Historical Society is looking for volunteers to serve as museum docents this summer — a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the town’s rich history. A docent welcomes visitors and provides them with information.
Docents volunteer for three or more hours a week, with orientation and training provided.
Summer museum hours are Thursdays, 3 to 5 p.m., and Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning June 13.
CHS is headquartered in the Paul Pratt Memorial Library, which houses the Society’s extensive archives and collections of historic clothing and textiles, paintings, decorative arts, vintage photographs, and ephemera. Changing exhibits, lectures, and other programs are held in the library’s first-floor rooms.
There are also a Maritime Museum featuring a collection of maritime-related objects and information about Cohasset’s seafaring history and the Captain John Wilson House — both located at 4 Elm St. — and the Beechwood Meetinghouse and Museum at 106 South Main St.

The Wilson House is the last unaltered example of 19th Century residences that once comprised the village center. The museum features interpretive displays that tell the story of 19th Century domestic life and period rooms and furnishings.
The Beechwood Meetinghouse and Museum showcases the history of the Cohasset fire and police departments as well as the Beechwood community — once a thriving farming section of the town.

These volunteer positions provide opportunities for students who need community service hours, history buffs, or those with spare time in their schedules. No prior knowledge is needed. Contact Outreach Coordinator Katie Holden at [email protected] or call (617) 240-7425 for more information.
